Because there are bad guys out there trying to cause havoc, we need to be skeptical sometimes. We need to be alert for them and be critical of email and snail mail that includes alerts and other warnings. A couple of my clients recently received this email:
Attention: Important Notice, DOMAIN SERVICE NOTICE Domain Name: YourDomain.org
ATT: Website Owner
Response Requested By
11- Sept. – 2016
PART I: REVIEW NOTICE
Attn: Website Owner
As a courtesy to domain name holders, we are sending you this notification for your business Domain name search engine registration. This letter is to inform you that it’s time to send in your registration.
Failure to complete your Domain name search engine registration by the expiration date may result in cancellation of this offer making it difficult for your customers to locate you on the web.
Privatization allows the consumer a choice when registering. Search engine registration includes domain name search engine submission. Do not discard, this notice is not an invoice it is a courtesy reminder to register your domain name search engine listing so your customers can locate you on the web.
This Notice for: yourdomain.org will expire at 11:59PM EST, 11 – Sept – 2016 Act now!
In conclusion, if you receive this email or paper notice and have questions. Check with your web developer or domain name registrar before acting on this kind of alert. Most likely it is spam and you can ignore it. When in doubt, though, always check with your domain name registrar. If you are not sure who that is, no need to fret. Contact myself or another web developer and we can help you get that valuable information.
